Tuesday's EFL predictions

The Championship promotion race is incredibly tight and Watford could be one of the big movers this week, starting with a home win over Bristol City.

Unsatisfactory away form has been an ongoing issue for Tom Cleverley's side, who endured a frustrating Friday after conceding an injury-time goal in a 2-2 draw at Plymouth.

Watford had outclassed the Pilgrims without putting the match to bed and paid a heavy price when ex-Hornet Andre Gray lashed in the second of his two goals to salvage a point for the home side.

The result left Watford with only two wins from nine away games but they have been a different beast at Vicarage Road, collecting 19 points from a possible 21, and will be looking forward to hosting Bristol City and QPR over the next five days.

Watford have a deep squad and are bolstered for their midweek match by the return of Ireland international Festy Ebosele from suspension.

Ebosele is just one of several attractive options for Cleverley should he choose to freshen up the side, but there is less leeway for Bristol City manager Liam Manning, who is restricted by injuries to Ayman Benarous, George Tanner, Joe Williams, Mark Sykes, Ross McCrorie and Sam Bell.

Manning's side lacked creativity in their 1-0 weekend loss at home to Burnley and they may suffer a second defeat in four days.

The Robins' rivals, Bristol Rovers, have been steadily climbing the League One standings and they can move into the top half with a home win over Blackpool.

Matt Taylor's men won 1-0 at Mansfield on Saturday and they can see off the struggling Seasiders, who extended their League One winless sequence to eight with a 2-1 weekend loss at Bolton.
