Millwall are the Championship's form side after winning four matches on the bounce, including impressive 1-0 victories against promotion favourites Burnley and Leeds.
Those results have propelled the Lions into the playoff mix and they can further underline their top-six credentials by claiming victory at Stoke.
After a slow start that saw them win just once in eight matches Stoke head into this game having recorded back-to-back victories with the arrival of Narcis Pelach to replace Steven Schumacher in September starting to pay dividends.
However, those last two successes came against poor travellers Derby and out-of-form Blackburn, with a visit from highflying Millwall likely to provide a much sterner test of the Potters' new-found resilience.
Millwall showed great defensive discipline and resolve to see off Burnley and Leeds, and having kept clean sheets in all of their four victories, Neil Harris's side should once again grind out a result.
Further down the pyramid, the bottom two in League One will face off at the Pirelli Stadium as Burton, still chasing their first league win of the season, entertain Shrewsbury.
Burton parted ways with manager Mark Robinson last month and interim boss Tom Hounsell has steadied the ship, following up a defeat to Cambridge in his opening game with an FA Cup victory over Scarborough and a goalless draw with another struggling side in Crawley.
Hounsell's three matches in charge have featured just two goals and Saturday's bottom-of-the-table scrap could also be low scoring, with Shrewsbury, who were the EFL's lowest scorers last season, failing to score in their last three League One games.
Last season's corresponding fixture produced just one goal - Burton were victorious 1-0 - and taking under 1.5 goals looks worth backing again.
