Reared start, slowly away, took keen hold, in rear, some headway over 1f out, no impression inside final furlong (jockey said gelding reared leaving stalls) (op 18/1 tchd 12/1)
In rear throughout (inquiry held into running and riding; vet reported post race that gelding was lame on his left fore; jockey said that instructions were to drop gelding in from wide draw and make sure gelding settled into a nice rhythm; she said that her mount was awkwardly into stride and outpaced due to strong early gallop, a fact which she reported at scales; when questioned regarding her first use of whip in home straight and as to whether or not it was an air-shot, she maintained that whip had made contact, albeit lightly and thereafter gelding was gradually making ground from approaching final furlong as pace up front collapsed; she said she was pleased with performance of gelding in the circumstances and felt she he had obtained best possible placing; trainer's rep confirmed instructions and expressed satisfaction with manner in which gelding had been ridden on this occasion) (op 50/1)
