Pulled hard, pressed leader, hung left and bumped rival 1f out, weakened inside final furlong, lost shoe (collided with rails in the chute going out on to course, having been checked by vet at the start, gelding was deemed fit to race; jockey said gelding hung left-handed inside the final furlong; vet reported gelding lost his left-hind shoe) (op 5/2)
Awkward start and slowly away, took keen hold, in rear, kept on from over 1f out, never near to challenge (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that gelding is a gassy sort, particularly after a break; his instructions were to try and settle gelding mid-division before mounting his challenge in home straight; however, after jumping awkwardly and losing considerable ground early on, he was further caught out by the strong early pace, which resulted in him being further back than intended; unable to chase for fear of lighting him up, he allowed gelding to make up ground gradually and, once he had switched round Paddy's Day and obtained clear running, he was able to ask for his effort and was pleased with the way gelding finished his race off in the circumstances; he added that, in his opinion, gelding would be best suited to sprint trips in the short term and would ideally appreciate a stiffer 5f; trainer's rep confirmed instructions and that he was satisfied with the ride; vet examined gelding post-race and had nothing to report) (tchd 5/1 and tchd 13/2)
Awkward start and slowly away, swerved right soon after start, always behind, eased home straight (jockey said gelding was restless in the stalls, slowly away and was never travelling) (op 9/1 tchd 15/2)
