Midfield when blundered 1st and good recovery, held up after, headway 9th, chasing leaders approaching 3 out, outpaced before 2 out, rallied before last, tried to challenge final 175yds, took 2nd towards finish but no impression on winner
Chased leader to 3rd, in rear 7th, struggling before 4 out, tailed off (trainer said, in regards to query why he was running gelding after his rep said gelding was feeling effects of busy season last time out, that gelding was disappointing last time but after being thoroughly checked over at home, and as he has been working well, he was happy for gelding to take chance before ground gets too quick. trainer said, with regards to betting concerns, he had been hopeful of a good run, but after a second disappointing run he feared gelding was becoming quirky and will be turning the horse away for a rest. jockey said gelding jumped off prominently, after some deliberate jumping, gradually lost ground and raced if in need of a break. post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities) (op 20/1)
