Wednesday's EFL predictions

Wilfried Gnonto’s injury-time strike helped Leeds make a winning return to action in a seven-goal thriller at Swansea on Sunday and the Championship title favourites will be expected to make tidy work of beating Luton at Elland Road on Wednesday.

Daniel Farke’s side have had their setbacks but they have been near foot-perfect at their home base, where they have reeled off five successive tier-two victories to take their tally at home to 19 points from eight matches.

Luton, meanwhile, have struggled to adapt to life back in the Championship following last season’s relegation from the Premier League and they have not won back-to-back league games since the middle of September, leaving them languishing two-thirds the way down the standings.

That is what the Hatters will be seeking at Elland Road having edged past Hull 1-0 at home on Saturday, but their performances on their travels have left plenty to be desired.

Luton have lost four Championship away games in a row and were trounced 5-1 at Middlesbrough in the latest of those, suggesting they may struggle to live with the attacking quality of Leeds.

So Leeds should be backed with confidence and can be doubled with one of their promotion rivals in Boro, who are progressing and starting to go through the gears.

That emphatic 5-1 victory over Luton came sandwiched between free-scoring successes away to QPR (4-1) and Oxford (6-2) and Michael Carrick’s men should also have too much firepower for Blackburn.

Rovers are struggling to match their early-season promise and have suffered five defeats in their last eight Championship matches, failing to score on five occasions during that sticky period.
