Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions

Sheffield Wednesday moved out of the Championship relegation places following Saturday’s shock 3-2 success at home to high-flying West Brom, but the Owls may struggle to build on that against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Danny Rohl’s side showed great spirit against the Baggies having let a 2-0 first-half lead slip before substitute Anthony Musaba struck a late winner to end their five-game winless run.

However, Wednesday have lost on all three away league trips to Sunderland, Millwall and Luton, conceding nine goals in total, and they have a point to prove away from Hillsborough.

With 14 goals conceded in seven games, only rock-bottom Cardiff boasted a worst defensive record in the Championship prior to this set of midweek fixtures and that is a weakness Bristol City may be confident of exploiting.

The Robins have had a stop-start campaign but their last two performances suggest that they may be capable of climbing the table in the coming weeks.

Bristol City were held to a 1-1 draw at Swansea on Sunday but they finished the stronger and won the shot count 15-7, while in their 2-1 victory at home to Oxford before that they had 19 shots to the visitors’ seven.

It means that Liam Manning’s side have taken seven points from three home league matches, having also beaten Millwall 4-3 and shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Coventry.

The Robins have gone eight Championship games unbeaten at Ashton Gate and last season they recorded home victories over promoted pair Leicester and Southampton, which further highlights their capabilities at their base.

Key stat

Bristol City have won six of their last eight home games in the Championship.
