Held up, headway over 1f out, shaken up and switched right inside final furlong, ran on to go 3rd post, not reach leaders (The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of the gelding, which was restrained from the stalls and raced in a rearward position throughout before staying on under a predominantly hands and heels ride in the home straight to finish third, beaten approximately 1 length. They interviewed the rider. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer that a post-race examination revealed that the gelding was lame on its left fore. The rider stated his instructions were to drop the gelding out and get him settled as it has been a keen sort in its work at home. He added that courtesy of the strong early pace he was able to get the gelding to switch off and relax, however approaching the home turn he became pocketed on the rail behind runners and had to wait until early in the home straight for a clear run. He further added that he was expecting the leaders to come back to him but the gelding lugged left and didnt quicken as anticipated when asked for its effort approaching the 1f marker. Donohoe stated that he will be recommending to the trainer that the gelding would be suited by a step up in trip and being ridden in a similar manner. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted his explanation.) (op 13/2 tchd 4/1)
