Slowly into stride, held up, headway over 1f out, not reach leaders (jockey said regarding running and riding that his instructions were to drop in last, settle his mount and then come through horses and do his best. He stated that he dropped in and settled as planned but when another runner came past him it lit his mount up and he began to run freely causing the saddle to slip forward which compromised his ability to ride the gelding as intended. In addition he found himself slightly short of room between two other runners as they turned out of the back straight but when he got a clear run he was able to allow his mount to lengthen its stride at which point his saddle slid back although not fully into the correct position. He was then able to ride the gelding out to the line but not as strenuously as he would have liked. The trainer confirmed that the ride given accorded with the instructions given the circumstances outlined above.) (op 10/1)
