Held up in behind leaders, went fourth when pushed along after 3 out, kept on from 2 out, not pace to challenge (enq held into the running and riding of the gelding, which was held up at the rear of the field and appeared to allow the first three runners to get away, before being asked for an effort in the closing stages, whereupon the gelding had stayed on strongly to finish fourth, beaten by 10¾ lengths. Jockey stated his instructions had been to ride the gelding to obtain the best possible placing, bearing in mind that the gelding had been running on the flat. He added that the gelding had initially settled well at the rear of the field but had run in snatches and been green over its hurdles in the early stages, before warming to its task as the race progressed. Jockey further further added that he had held onto the gelding as he was concerned about the trip and was mindful that the gelding may needed the run having not run over hurdles for 18 months, but in the circumstances had been delighted with the performance. Trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied the ride before adding that the jockey could perhaps have been a bit more forceful from turning into the home straight) (op 100/1)
