Soon detached in rear, still plenty to do approaching final furlong, kept on well inside final furlong under hands and heels, never nearer (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his orders were to drop the mare in, and see how the pace goes, he took it right back after breaking from stalls, but he felt the pace was very fast, and said he was going flat out and wanted to keep hold as long as he could, he put it into the race 1 1/2f out and only eased when he saw a horse clip a heel on the outside close home, he admitted that he dropped back too far, got the pace wrong and thought it an appalling piece of riding. The trainer confirmed the instructions, but stated after seeing a replay that he was disgusted with the ride.) (op 20/1)
