Held up towards rear until progress 3 out in 8th, kept on from before last, never nearer (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his orders were to drop in and take his time with a view to finishing as well as possible, he had reservations about the quick ground but felt that the race was run at a fast early pace which left the mare well off the pace and was compromised by jumping very high and losing ground.) Raced in mid-division, chased leading quintet in 6th 4 out, no impression approaching 2 out, soon one pace (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his orders were not to ask the gelding at the hurdles, leave it on the bridle as it goes better ridden that way, ride it with heels, keep the bit up in it's mouth and a hold of its head for as long as possible as it does not go for a drive, he rode exactly, but in the fast early pace he was unable to lie up, missed some hurdles, squeezed it from the 4th last and slapped it early in the straight but got no response and left it alone closing stages; trainer agrred with the account of instructions but felt the jockey had failed to ride with determination and had failed to obtain the best possible placing. Following a subsequent enquiry, jockey received three-day ban (Dec 20,21, 31) for failing to report the horse felt flat through the race) (op 8/1)
