Held up in last, some headway but still plenty to do after 6th, ridden and rapid headway before 2 out, went third after 2 out, led approaching last, soon wandered around, hit last, went clear run-in, readily (tchd 85/40)
Led, 6 lengths ahead 2nd, reduced lead with one circuit to go, jumped right 6th, headed and ridden before 2 out, rallied and led again after 2 out, soon headed, outpaced run-in (op 6/1 tchd 9/2)
Took keen hold, held up in rear, lost touch but going okay after 6th, stayed on under tender handling from 2 out, never on terms (An enquiry was held into the running and riding of the gelding which was held up in rear and ridden tenderly throughout, to finish eighth of ten beaten 32½ lengths. The rider and trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities. The jockey stated her instructions were to drop in and settle the gelding at the back of the field, keeping him on the bridle for as long as she could. She added the gelding was keen due to the slow pace and when asked for an effort turning out of the final bend in back straight, he failed to pick up as she had expected. The trainer stated that he agreed with the instructions but added as there was no pace, the gelding appeared to be keen. He further stated that in his opinion, his rider should have got into a closer position in the back straight and asked for an effort sooner) (op 8/1)
