Hung right throughout, took keen hold, led, went clear after 1st, headed and lost ground quickly after 4th, behind from 3 out, dismounted (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his instructions were to allow gelding to make his own running, as gelding is a keen sort, the plan being that it would settle of his own accord; he explained that gelding galloped through the first flight and as soon as it landed he was struggling to hold it and, thereafter, he hung so badly right handed he was on one rein which he reported at scales; he therefore brought it back through the field down back straight in the hope that, given a lead, gelding would settle better and straighten up; however, this did not work either so he did his best to keep a hold of his head and although he finished with plenty of running, he felt there was never a time in the race when he could let it go for fear that gelding would either run off the track or interfere with another runner.; vet reported gelding was displaying a swelling to his left fore) (op 5/2 tchd 9/4)
