Saint Riquier teed up an ambitious trip to the US for the American Champion Hurdle next month when impressively landing the feature £40,000 2m handicap hurdle.

Trained and owned by Ian Williams, the six-year-old had won three of his last four starts on the Flat and transferred that form to the jumps with a two-and-a-half-length triumph under Charlie Todd.

Todd told Racing TV: "He was my first winner as a fully fledged professional. He had a couple of years off with an injury but has been busy on the Flat and came here today and won well.

"I kept saying to Ian to get him back over jumps. I think the plan is to go over for the American Champion Hurdle at Far Hills. If he was going to go there, he realistically needed to put his best foot forward here."

A trip to New Jersey is in the pipeline now and Todd said: "I'd quite like to ride him there. It's ambitious but after what he's done this year on the Flat and today, there's no denying his best days are in front of him."

Swagger win

Fresh from Wimbledon Hawkeye's Royal Lodge Stakes success on the Flat, James Owen and the Gredleys unleashed an exciting jumps prospect in Liam Swagger in the 2m½f juvenile hurdle.

Winning rider Sam Twiston-Davies was aboard the 4-6 favourite and doubled up on Safe Destination in the 3m handicap chase.

Course star

Two-time Summer Plate hero Francky Du Berlais enjoyed another track success in the 2m5½f handicap chase.
