There's something classy about a Gosden-trained favourite in the Sky Bet Solario Stakes, a description which fits Field Of Gold today. You only have to consider the rich history of this race, which might not have the same public profile as other Group races for two-year-olds but which has nonetheless built up an impressive roll of honour.

Raven's Pass, Kingman and Too Darn Hot, they were all prepared by John Gosden to win this race and all went on to achieve top-class success and establish stud careers. We can only guess at what Gosden's first two Solario winners, Foss Way and Windsor Knot, might have become if they had not been moved to another stable after their juvenile seasons.

That's the tradition Field Of Gold is trying to uphold. After just two races, who knows where his ceiling is? He pulled right away from his dozen rivals to win a Newmarket maiden last month, which is enough by itself to make him favourite for this Group 3.
