You Got To Me added to St Leger field but leading Godolphin contender misses out at key entry stage
Godolphin's Ancient Wisdom will not line up in Saturday's Betfred St Leger, with connections keen to wait for softer conditions for the Group 1 winner, but Irish Oaks winner You Got To Me will take on the might of Aidan O'Brien at Doncaster after being supplemented on Monday.
A potential field of ten were left in contention for the Leger at the latest confirmation and supplementary stage, with O'Brien leaving five in the race, including the first three in the ante-post market.
Ancient Wisdom had been the shortest-priced of a depleted offering from the home nation but last season's Futurity Trophy winner will not line up in the final Classic of the domestic season.
"The horse is in good form, but will instead be aimed at an autumn campaign with his favoured ground conditions," read an update from Charlie Appleby's Moulton Paddocks on Monday.
You Got To Me is undoubtedly a welcome addition to the race and will bid to give trainer Ralph Beckett his second win in the Leger after another filly, Simple Verse, triumphed in 2015. You Got To Me was introduced in the betting at 11-2 with Betfred.
However, Ladbrokes have gone shortest at 7-2 for the Yorkshire Oaks runner-up, and spokesperson Nicola McGeady said: “Aidan O’Brien dominates the St Leger betting, but whether a star is among them remains to be seen, so we will look to take his team on and instead keep the supplemented You Got To Me on side.”
Irish Derby winner Los Angeles stood his ground but is instead anticipated to line up in Saturday's Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes, with his O'Brien-trained stablemate Illinois heading the St Leger market at 7-4 with the race sponsors.
O'Brien has a stranglehold on the front of the market, with Jan Brueghel second favourite at 3-1 and Grosvenor Square third choice at 4-1. Sunway, runner-up to Los Angeles in the Irish Derby, is rated a 13-2 chance.
Los Angeles is priced at 9-1, while Derby fourth Deira Mile is a 14-1 chance. Outsiders Align The Stars, Wild Waves and Euphoric also remain in contention.
