'It's a massive bonus' - David Menuisier confident Christophe Soumillon can shine on big St Leger hope Sunway
David Menuisier has turned to one of the best top-race jockeys in Europe in his quest to capture a first British Classic, with Christophe Soumillon booked to ride Sunway in Saturday's Betfred St Leger (3.40) at Doncaster.
Sunway was one of ten horses to remain in contention for the St Leger on Monday, with Godolphin's Ancient Wisdom a high-profile absentee.
However, the £700,000 Group 1 did receive a significant boost with owners Valmont and Newsells Park Stud stumping up £50,000 to supplement Irish Oaks winner You Got To Me, who will bid to give trainer Ralph Beckett his second win in the Leger after another filly, Simple Verse, triumphed in 2015.
