BetMGM to sponsor the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival until 2027
BetMGM will sponsor the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival until 2027 after the bookmaker became an official betting partner of the Jockey Club.
BetMGM replaces Betway, who had sponsored the Champion Chase since 2015, as the backer of the main race on the second day of the festival and has taken on headline sponsorship of a number of other contests at Jockey Club racecourses.
As well as the Champion Chase, BetMGM will sponsor the Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter, the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton and the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket, alongside “several” races at Cheltenham’s December meeting.
Sam Behar, UK director at BetMGM, said: “The Cheltenham Festival is where everyone wants to be and we are very excited to be right in the thick of it by sponsoring one of the feature races of the four-day meeting.
“The BetMGM Queen Mother Champion Chase is one of the biggest and most valuable races of the entire year and we really feel this sponsorship shows our commitment to horseracing in this country moving forward.
“By becoming an official betting partner of the Jockey Club we are putting ourselves where we want to be and we’re really looking forward to being associated with several big races across the country over the next couple of years.”
Dan Glavin, bookmaker partnership manager at the Jockey Club, added: “The team at BetMGM is full of enthusiasm and we look forward to working closely with them over the months and years to come.”
Last season, BetMGM sponsored at the Cheltenham Festival for the first time when backing the Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle. However, a new sponsor will be needed for the race in the wake of the bookmaker moving its support to the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
