The Jukebox Man puts Dubs top of the charts in Tote Ten to Follow

There is no doubt which race of recent days will have been most eagerly anticipated by players of the Tote Ten to Follow competition as the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse brought together two of the most selected horses in the competition, Lossiemouth and Teahupoo.

On this occasion their popularity was reflected in their finishing positions as Lossiemouth, who is represented in 50.6% of teams, breezed away from Teahupoo (who figures in 35.1% of teams) to collect 26.58 points and consolidate her position as Champion Hurdle favourite.

Similarly, at Newcastle on Saturday, Sir Gino, who is in 22.4% of teams, put in an impressive performance in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, while market rival Mystical Power (11.5% of teams) floundered some 33 lengths behind in sixth.

Sir Gino collected 28.30 points to put him in eighth place in the list of scorers, while Lossiemouth is in 11th.

However, the ubiquity of these picks means that they have not influenced the top of the leaderboard as much as less popular selections and it is a winner from Newbury on Friday, The Jukebox Man, who has done most to propel The Dubs 16 to the top of the charts.

Earning 24.95 points and with the promise of many more to come in the season’s top novice chases, The Jukebox Man found favour with only 2% of players who can now relish the season ahead for a six-year-old who went close to victory at the Cheltenham and Aintree spring festivals last season.

Just 35 minutes after The Jukebox Man scored at Newbury, Le Patron picked up 27.80 points in a handicap chase but without a single supporter from Ten to Follow ranks cheering him home. Nevertheless, he moves into ninth in the list of scorers.

It was a similar story in the Coral Gold Cup, in which Kandoo Kid collected 51.70 points but for just 0.1% of players, and in Sunday’s Drinmore Novice Chase, in which Croke Park, the outsider of five runners representing just two stables, defied those odds to take 50.50 points, again for the far-sighted 0.1% of stables.
