We are up and running in the Tote Ten to Follow jumps competition 2024-25, with a few fleet-footed competitors setting a strong pace after a weekend of significant action at Cheltenham and Navan.

Jonbon in Friday’s Shloer Chase was the starting point for many and, with 73.2% of teams placing their faith in Nicky Henderson’s chaser, he is the only one of the top ten scorers to command a large following. His workmanlike success did the job in putting 21.34 points on the board.

The horses who made a difference are those selected by only a few teams and chief among those is Found A Fifty, who found favour with 5.7% of teams and brought them 23.58 points thanks to a narrow Fortria Chase victory.

He is the main scorer for goalpoststowinningposts (Nov), the team topping the leaderboard, who also have the fine novice chasing prospect L’Eau Du Sud in their squad. He gained 23.01 points with victory at Cheltenham but for just 2.1% of teams, which is surprising as he had been touted as a horse of huge potential.

Second on the leaderboard is Cannonballs 23, who have another Cheltenham winner in Potters Charm (24.05 points) and Navan scorer The Yellow Clay (17.83 points) on board. Both these novice hurdlers were picked by just 0.5% of teams so it’s a decent achievement to have included both and to have been instantly rewarded, even though that fast start was surely key to their plan.

Cannonballs 14, next on the list, has a similar team but it includes another novice hurdler in Wreckless Eric who collected 18.70 points for 0.1% of teams in a handicap at Cheltenham.

Home By The Lee is the early top scorer, rewarding just 0.2% of teams, including fourth-placed h1, with 32.70 points for his Lismullen Hurdle defeat of Bob Olinger.

The winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup, Il Ridoto, brought 29 points to 0.3% of teams, while Burdett Road, the Greatwood Hurdle scorer, picked up 21.40 points for 0.8% of teams, including the number one on the leaderboard and he could play a significant role for that outfit as he steps up in grade with the Champion Hurdle the long-term aim.
