Garbine Muguruza, who is defending her Monterrey Open title this week, faces a potentially tough second-round clash against Margarita Gasparyan in Mexico.

Muscovite Gasparyan is a competent performer who is staging a bright return to the sport after a long injury lay-off and it could pay to support her against the Spanish second seed, who toiled in a 7-6 6-4 first-round victory over Gabriela Ruse.

Gasparyan, who dropped only one game in her opener against a homeland wildcard, is 10-11 to win at least a set which can be considered, but instead it could pay to back her with a handicap start of 4.5 games at the same price.

It's third-round day in the WTA Charleston Open (BT Sport 1, from 4pm) with the second round having been due to be completed on Wednesday.
