Alcaraz vs Rublev predictions

The pressure is well and truly on Carlos Alcaraz to respond to his surprise 6-1 7-5 defeat to Casper Ruud in his ATP World Tour Finals opener on Monday, but the Spanish star is difficult to trust on the back of such a poor performance when he takes on Andrey Rublev in Turin on Wednesday.

That was a fourth defeat in seven outings for Alcaraz and he has also been beaten in two of his three previous meetings with Rublev, who will also be looking for a positive display after his opening loss to Alexander Zverev.

However, there were far more positives to take from Rublev’s defeat to recent Paris Masters champion Zverev, who was pushed all the way in a 6-4 6-4 victory. So, with Alcaraz clearly operating way below the level he was at earlier in the season, Rublev looks a good bet on the handicap and appeals with a start of +2.5 games.

Zverev vs Ruud predictions

Wednesday's later match at the Inalpi Arena sees the two winners from Monday, Zverev and Ruud, do battle in an encounter that would ensure qualification to the last four for the victor. 

Zverev built on his latest title success in Paris with a routine 6-4 6-4 victory over Rublev in his opening encounter in Italy and another 2-0 win looks on the cards against Ruud. 

The Norwegian upset Alcaraz in his curtain-raiser, although he had lost eight of his nine previous matches and backing it up could prove tough. Zverev, meanwhile, has won 11 of his last 13 hard-court assignments while two of his three meetings with Ruud on this quicker surface have gone his way in straight sets. 

Another 2-0 win is priced accordingly, however, so bettors can take a chance on the German world number two belying a handicap start of -4.5 games.
