Jannik Sinner vs Jack Draper predictions

The word on the street is that Jack Draper is on the way to "doing an Emma Raducanu" at the US Open, but there are marked differences regarding the way the Britons went into their Flushing Meadows title tilts.

Raducanu, who won in New York City three years ago without dropping a set, had done little to suggest she would rule in the Big Apple with the exception of a promising run to the fourth round at Wimbledon earlier in the year. In contrast, Draper had shown immense promise on his path to the last 16 of last year’s US Open.

However, that didn’t stop bookmakers quoting 250-1 about the brilliant 22-year-old from Surrey and he is well worth a punt to upend world number one and top seed Jannik Sinner, who lifted his first Grand Slam singles trophy at the Australian Open in January.

Like Raducanu, Draper has yet to drop a set on the way to taking a place in the last four. Clearly, the Sutton man's run of straight-sets wins is likely to end on Friday night, but he should have no fear when taking on the Italian.

Draper's physical power - he weighs in 10kg heavier than the man from the Dolomites - has helped to propel him to this successful run. Blowing away Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals was not a surprise and he could make light work of the tougher task of downing Sinner.

A teenage Draper beat Sinner 7-6 7-6 at the Queen's Club in 2021, when he would have been more familiar with playing on grass. But given the recent huge strides made by the Brit - and the fact that Sinner remains a bit of slow-burner, even at the top level - it shouldn’t raise many eyebrows if the 1-6 shot gets overturned in their second clash.

Taylor Fritz is a fairly warm order to defeat his fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the second men's semi-final, but while the Californian will probably prevail, he is no certainty.

Tiafoe is one of the best battlers on court and it's no surprise to see him go this deep in a Slam - the Maryland native is blessed with plenty of ability of his own - so Fritz will have to be on top of his game to reach the final.

It could turn into a close-fought contest and the best bet could be to get long of games.
