Sunday's US Open predictions

The first week of the 2024 US Open is nearly done and dusted and on Sunday it is time for the round of 16.

In both the men's and women's competitions, the bottom halves take centre stage with defending champion Coco Gauff in action against Emma Navarro and men's fourth seed Alex Zverev taking on Brandon Nakashima.

Emma Navarro vs Coco Gauff predictions

Emma Navarro took down Coco Gauff en route to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in July and she could again get the better of her compatriot in a Grand Slam.

Third seed Gauff will be feeling the weight of expectation after winning the US Open last year but she struggled for form prior to Flushing Meadows this time, winning just one of her three matches after Wimbledon.

Navarro is a supposed underdog but represents value to win this having reached the semi-finals of the Monterrey Open in preparation for the season's final Grand Slam.

Frances Tiafoe vs Alexei Popyrin predictions

Frances Tiafoe has made deep runs at the US Open in the last two seasons, reaching the semi-finals in 2022 and the quarter-finals last year, and he looks in good shape once again.

The big-serving American has been fine-tuning his game during the North American hard-court swing, progressing to the semi-finals of the Washington Citi Open and finishing as runner-up at the Cincinnati Masters.

His confidence should be sky-high after a five-set win over compatriot and 2023 semi-finalist Ben Shelton, so he could be a bit of value to edge the improving Australian Alexei Popyrin.

Casper Ruud vs Taylor Fritz predictions

Completing a potential hat-trick of American winners on Sunday, Taylor Fritz should be comfortable against Casper Ruud in the last 16 at the US Open.

Fritz is yet to drop a set at Flushing Meadows this year, having claimed the scalp of Matteo Berretini in the second round.

In his three matches at the Grand Slam, he has won the game count 19-8, 19-10 and 18-9 and he should comfortably cover a handicap of 4.5 games.
