Monday's US Open predictions

Jack Draper is the last Brit standing at this year's US Open, which enters its second week on Monday.

British number one Draper faces Czech world number 39 Tomas Machac in the last 16 of an open men's draw following the shock exits of the previous two champions at Flushing Meadows, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, in the last few days.

Men's top seed Jannik Sinner is still in the hunt for a second Grand Slam title of 2024, however, and the Italian and women's world number one Iga Swiatek are the headline acts on day eight in the Big Apple.

Jack Draper vs Tomas Machac predictions

For the second successive year Draper has reached the fourth round in New York City and the 22-year-old looks poised to go further yet.

After an underwhelming showing at Wimbledon in July, Draper's focus turned immediately to the North American hard-court swing with appearances in Montreal and Cincinnati.

He progressed to the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters, taking down Stefanos Tsitsipas and Felix Auger-Aliassime, and that boosted his confidence ahead of the season's final Grand Slam.

The 25th seed is yet to drop a set at Flushing Meadows, defeating Alcaraz's conqueror Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3 6-4 6-2 in the previous round, and he could give short shrift to Machac, who is appearing in the last 16 of a Slam for the first time.

Caroline Wozniacki vs Beatriz Haddad Maia predictions

Experienced Dane Caroline Wozniacki is a two-time US Open runner-up, although it is a decade since she last reached the final at Flushing Meadows and she has not gone beyond the fourth round since 2016.

Wozniacki's run to the last 16 this year is something of an anomaly given she has played only 23 matches this season, losing 11 of them, and she could come unstuck against Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The Brazilian warmed up for the US Open by making the final of Tennis in the Land in Cleveland and she was ruthless in her third-round meeting with Anna Kalinskaya in New York, easing past the 15th seed 6-3 6-1.

Diana Shnaider vs Jessica Pegula predictions

The emergence of 20-year-old Diana Shnaider has been one of the big talking points on the WTA Tour this season, but her hopes of making the US Open quarter-finals could be dashed by Jessica Pegula.

Shnaider has yet to put a foot wrong in New York but sixth seed Pegula represents a big step up from her recent opponents.

Pegula has also won all of her matches in straight sets and she was one of the form players heading into the year's final Grand Slam, winning the title in Toronto before reaching the final of the Cincinnati Open.

The American is determined to make her Major breakthrough in her homeland and she could secure her spot in the quarter-finals with another routine success.
