Preview

Anastasija Sevastova reached the semi-finals of the Kremlin Cup last year and the Latvian sixth seed can show her liking for the Moscow event by securing a quarter-final spot at the expense of Kristina Mladenovic.

Sevastova sailed past Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-1 7-5 in the opening round and she rates a strong favourite to follow up against the wildly inconsistent Mladenovic, who is 21 places worse off in the world rankings.

Mladenovic required a deciding set to get the better of Yulia Putintseva in her Russian curtain-raiser and will need to improve on that performance if she is to trouble a seasoned Sevastova.

There is some competitive men's action taking place in Antwerp, where Marius Copil should cause problems for Diego Schwartzman.

The Romanian qualifier has already won three matches in Belgium this week and although he now does the bulk of his business in Challenger events, his limited chances on the main tour still yield positive results.

Copil beat talented Frenchman Ugo Humbert in five sets at the US Open in August, just one week after taking Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta the distance in Winston Salem.

Copil's only previous meeting with Schwartzman in Acapulco in February also went to a deciding set and there is every chance of a repeat with him potentially the sharper of the two.
