Thursday's ATP Finals predictions

Italian top seed Jannik Sinner is on the verge of qualifying for the final four of the ATP Finals following straight-sets victories over Alex De Minaur and Taylor Fritz and he can seal the deal by topping the Ilie Nastase Group with another routine win over Daniil Medvedev.

Sinner has claimed seven tour titles already in what has been a stellar 2024 and he is odds-on to finish the season in style in Turin, where his home crowd are offering more than a helping hand.

Tuesday’s 6-4 6-4 victory over Fritz was the Italian’s 67th win from 73 matches this season, highlighting his sheer dominance, and he has mastered Medvedev many times throughout.

The pair have locked horns six times this season and Sinner has triumphed on five occasions, winning October’s double-header with relative ease.

The world number one defeated Medvedev 6-1 6-4 in Shanghai in early October before brushing aside the Russian 6-0 6-3 at the Six Kings Slam Exhibition.

Medvedev ended a four-game losing streak with a 6-2 6-4 victory over De Minaur on Tuesday but he was no match for Fritz, who prevailed 6-4 6-3, and he is unlikely to have too much joy against Sinner in his home comforts.

The other match from the Inalpi Arena sees Fritz take on De Minaur and the American can inflict a third straight defeat on his opponent.

This is De Minaur’s ATP Finals debut but he has found things tough and a 6-3 6-4 loss to Sinner was followed by a 6-2 6-4 hiding at the hands of Medvedev.

This season’s US Open runner-up Fritz had Medvedev’s measure and he was far from disgraced in losing to tournament favourite Sinner, who hit 22 winners to the American’s 19 in a compelling encounter.

The Californian is serving superbly and knows that this is a must-win contest so he may well be up to overcoming what looks a modest handicap start.
