Paris Masters tennis preview

The ATP tour is drawing to a close for another season but there is plenty to play for in the Paris Masters - the final ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year.

With the ATP Finals in Turin just over the horizon, crucial ranking points are up for grabs in the French capital with only Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Alex Zverev and Daniil Medvedev qualified.

Novak Djokovic is one of the players trying to make the top eight for that event but will miss the Paris Masters, meaning he will not defend his title.

And given that top seed Sinner finds himself in the toughest segment of the Paris Masters draw, an outsider could rise to the occasion.

One player to keep an eye on is veteran Grigor Dimitrov, who is looking to move into contention for the ATP Finals along with the likes of Taylor Fritz, Djokovic and Andrey Rublev.

Dimitrov crashed out of the recent Vienna Open in the last 16 but was a runner-up at the Stockholm Open beforehand.

A lover of the hard courts, Dimitrov was also a quarter-finalist at this year's US Open and he has experience of excelling in the Paris Masters, reaching the final of last year's competition, only to lose to Djokovic.

The Bulgarian is now 33 but is by no means past his best with 43 wins from his 59 matches on the ATP tour in 2024 and he can not be ruled out in Paris.

American ace Tommy Paul could be another decent pick. Like Dimitrov, Paul exited the Vienna Open prematurely, but he was crowned Stockholm Open champion in October.

He has three ATP tour titles to his name this year and is another player in the mix for the ATP Finals in Turin, albeit with a slim chance.

Paul finds himself in the weaker half of the draw, avoiding Sinner, Fritz, Zverev, Rublev, Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jack Draper, and he could be in for a decent run in the French capital.
