Novak Djokovic is the man to beat on his return to London's ATP World Tour Finals and the world number one starts his assault on the season-ending tournament when he faces American beanpole John Isner in the evening match at the O2.

Djokovic, who returned to the summit of the rankings after Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Paris Masters two weeks ago, is no bigger than 1-7 and should have no problems against Isner, even if the big-serving veteran is inspired on his first appearance in this event.

The better betting heat is the afternoon meeting where Alexander Zverev is a narrow favourite to beat Marin Cilic but, while the young German is a brilliant talent, bookmakers may have got the prices wrong.

At first glance, Zverev's 5-1 head-to-head record over Cilic is impressive, but the 21-year-old is not at his best indoors and looked jaded in losing to Marius Copil in Basel and then again against Karen Khachanov in Paris.

The German was favourite for each of those clashes but he's played more matches than any other player in 2018 and that may be starting to show.

Cilic came close to beating Djokovic in Paris, blowing a final-set lead in Bercy, and is likely to want to maintain a high level with the Davis Cup final on the horizon.

M Cilic
