2024 ATP Finals predictions

With no Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in the draw for an ATP Finals for the first time since 2001, the stage is set for Jannik Sinner to confirm his status as the ATP's new top dog with a win in the Turin finale.

Italian Sinner, a brilliant winner of the Australian Open and US Open this season, is assured of the year-end number-one ranking but he'll be desperate to bag this important title in his homeland after losing out to Djokovic in last season's final.

The 23-year-old, seen in ATP Tour action most recently when winning the Shanghai Masters final – his 21st win in 22 matches – is as big as 6-4 to finish the 2024 season on a high and those quotes look more than fair.

He is housed in the Ilie Nastase Group, also featuring Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur, all of whom he will face in round-robin matches over the first six days in Turin.

Sinner has won seven of his last eight against Medvedev and his last two against Fritz, having beaten both in Grand Slam finals this season, while he's 7-0 against De Minaur. It would be a big shock if he fails to top the group.

A probable semi-final clash with Carlos Alcaraz or Alexander Zverev could complicate matters but, provided he's over the illness which saw him skip the Paris Masters, it's hard to see Sinner falling short on a home court given his form of the last three months.

Paris champion Zverev is the second-favourite in the John Newcombe Group behind Alcaraz and he looks decent value to top the section.

The German won the Turin title in 2021, then was unfortunate not to advance to the last four a year ago with a 2-1 record, beating Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev, both of whom he will face again this week.

Alcaraz has been inconsistent from mid-August onwards, suffering several defeats at short odds, Rublev has his limitations and Casper Ruud has been in hopeless form in the autumn.
