Tiger Woods infamously carded a round of 81 at Muirfield in the 2002 Open Championship and some big numbers could be coming when the world's best women tackle this beastly links this week.

It was wind and rain which derailed Woods 20 years ago, but it is firm, fast fairways and concrete-like greens which will make Muirfield such an examination over the next four days.

One lady who seems likely to thrive in the conditions is proven Open performer Georgia Hall, who won the British Ladies Amateur on a links in 2013 and has not looked back since.

English women's sport enjoyed a huge boost on Sunday when the Lionesses triumphed in the European Championship football - and maybe Hall can follow that up by claiming Open glory for a second time.

The pride of Bournemouth was low amateur on her Open debut in 2013 and her form figures from the last five Opens are 3-1-35-45-2.

Hall loves links golf, winning the Open in fine style at Royal Lytham in 2018, she has not missed a cut all season, and she was eighth in the Evian Championship in the last LPGA Major.

Atthaya Thitikul 22-1

The conveyor belt of LPGA talent from Asia is as strong as ever, and Atthaya Thitikul could become an Open champion before reaching her 20th birthday.

The Thai teen terror rapidly became world number one amateur and won her first professional event at the age of 14. At 19, she has five pro titles to her name, and the step up to Major winner will probably come sooner rather than later.

Thitikul was fourth in the PGA Championship in June, then eighth in the Evian Championship, clearly becoming more comfortable in Major arenas. She was low amateur in the Open in 2018 and 2019, and runner-up in the Scottish Open at Dumbarnie last year, so the youngster has quickly got a handle on links golf.
