Masters predictions

Just over a week after Luke Littler created history by becoming the youngest PDC World Championship winner, the Alexandra Palace gets set to showcase some more elite sport with snooker’s top players heading to north London to contest the Masters.

There will be no Ronnie O’Sullivan as last year's champion, an eight-time winner, has withdrawn on medical grounds, so 2012 and 2022 Masters hero Neil Robertson is the lucky beneficiary.

Robertson has to be feared in his hat-trick attempt but an opening-round contest with John Higgins is no easy feat while former winners Shaun Murphy, Mark Allen and Mark Selby also contest a competitive top half.

Selby, a three-time winner and twice a runner-up, represents each-way value. He should be ready to contend after some solid showings in last week’s Championship League, in which he topped a star-studded Group Three with five wins from five and dropped only three frames.

That should ensure the Jester from Leicester is razor-sharp and he looks to have dropped in a nice quarter of the draw, opening up against last season’s runner-up Ali Carter before tackling Allen or Si Jiahui in the quarter-final.

Judd Trump, who was last crowned Masters champion in 2023, is the star attraction in the bottom half but Barry Hawkins, Mark Williams and Ding Junhui are tough obstacles for the Ace in the Pack to pass before the title favourite can dream of a semi-final appearance.

World champion Kyren Wilson has the best draw on paper but he is priced accordingly and Luca Brecel and Chris Wakelin have posed plenty of problems for the Warrior in the recent past.
