Champion of Champions predictions

Group Two of the Champions of Champions starts at lunchtime on Wednesday and it’s a high-class section with Judd Trump taking on Ding Junhui and Neil Robertson clashing with Ali Carter.

Trump is the standout performer in the group, having won the Shanghai and Saudi Arabia Masters this term and reached at least the quarter-finals of 17 of the last 18 events he has contested.

However, the Ace in the Pack takes on last week’s International Championship winner Ding Junhui in round one, followed by a potential last-eight tie against Robertson or Carter, and a price of 6-5 about Trump winning the group looks a little skinny.

Robertson endured a poor season last term, but the Australian bounced back to form to win the English Open in September and the Thunder from Down Under has also made the quarter-finals at the Northern Ireland Open and Saudi Arabia Masters.

There is no doubting the class of Robbo and last week’s early exit in China may prove a blessing in terms of his preparation for the Champion of Champions.

Carter has suffered a series of early defeats in ranking tournaments this season and Robertson should find a way past the Captain.

The Melbourne ace would be favourite if lining up against Ding in the last eight and Robertson’s group price is big enough to punt, even if Trump is waiting for him on Wednesday evening.
