Wales vs England predictions

Ask any Welsh fan to name the Six Nations match they look forward to the most and they will almost certainly tell you it's the one against England, especially in Cardiff.

After a miserable start, Wales's resurgence under interim coach Matt Sherratt has given the English plenty to ponder ahead of their Super Saturday meeting but the title-chasing Red Rose should prove too good.

Welsh rugby plumbed new depths after losing 43-0 to France and 22-15 to Italy but Warren Gatland's decision to depart and Cardiff coach Sherratt's introduction for the final three matches has lifted the mood.

His first outing was a 27-18 defeat to Ireland before his team showed further improvement in last Saturday's 35-29 defeat in Scotland.

Their record-losing run stands at 16 Tests, but beating England at the Principality would be the perfect way to end that streak.

With Ireland expected to outclass Italy, a good showing from Wales could also see them avoid the wooden spoon.

However, England have bigger ambitions and can still win the Championship with a bonus point victory and a defeat for France in the evening kick-off against Scotland.

Steve Borthwick's back-line reshuffle, moving Elliot Daly to the left wing and handing Tom Roebuck his first start on the opposite flank, hints that he expects Wales to look to use the high ball but both players are also excellent counter-attackers, as is Marcus Smith, who returns at full-back.

England's most eyecatching change behind the scrum is Tommy Freeman's inclusion at outside centre following Ollie Lawrence's injury and his switch from the wing might provide a view into the future.

The 24-year-old has scored a try in his last five Six Nations games and could become the first Red Rose player to cross in every round of a single Championship.

Freeman partners Northampton colleague Fraser Dingwall and will know where to be in attack, with fellow Saints stars Alex Mitchell and Fin Smith continuing in the half-back roles.

The mobile back-row of Ben and Tom Curry and Ben Earl can counter Welsh captain Jac Morgan at the breakdown and set the platform for their colleagues to dictate the play, while a 6-2 bench split provides plentiful power in reserve.

Wales might be rejuvenated, but inspiration can only take you so far and England have a chance to demonstrate they can be the real deal.
