Saturday's Premiership rugby predictions

The first of three Premiership matches on Saturday is a belated Christmas gift as highflying Bath welcome third-placed Saracens to the Rec.

Johann van Graan’s hosts have made a stunning start to the new campaign, winning seven of their first eight matches, with only Bristol, who had the chance to usurp Bath at the top against Sale on Friday, able to stop them.

Home advantage could prove key in helping Bath extend their winning run to five league matches against Sarries, although it's unlikely that they will run away with proceedings.

Saracens have won their last three matches in all competitions but they have lost two of their four away matches in this season's Premiership.

That said, both of those defeats were by no more than a converted try so they should be more than capable of keeping this competitive armed with a 9.5-point handicap start.

Harlequins and Leicester will be out to snap their respective two-game losing streaks in the league when they meet at Twickenham.

Quins have lost four of their last five in all competitions and failed to get on the scoreboard in defeat to Gloucester last time out.

Leicester, meanwhile, have lost three of their last four away outings but they have won three of their four Premiership matches on the road – a record bettered by only Bristol and Bath.

The visitors have won on their last two visits to Harlequins and the Tigers could enjoy another fruitful trip to the capital.

Champions Northampton are just 1-66 to see off Newcastle at Franklin’s Gardens, where the Falcons have not won since 2018.

The round of derby meetings continues in the United Rugby Championship on Saturday with second-placed Glasgow four-point favourites to beat Edinburgh in the day's feature contest (Premier Sports 1, 3pm).
