Saracens vs Northampton predictions

Winning a title is tough enough but Northampton are finding that it is even more difficult to defend it after losing four of their first seven Premiership games this season.

After reaching last season's Twickenham showpiece by beating Saracens in the last four of the playoffs before outlasting Bath in the title-decider, the Saints waved goodbye to several stalwarts in the summer and are still adapting.

Sarries also lost some big names but there has been a freshness about Mark McCall's side this term. Although they have lost their last two Premiership matches either side of the autumn internationals, they won both of their Champions Cup games, beating the Bulls 27-5 and then Stade Francais in Paris last weekend.

In a city synonymous with the guillotine, Sekou Macalou's high tackle on Ivan van Zyl saw Stade reduced to 14 men with 58 minutes to play and Sarries took full advantage to run out 28-17 victors.

Northampton also won both of their Champions Cup outings, seeing off Castres 38-8 before themselves beating the Bulls 30-21.

Captain George Furbank's arm injury, which could rule him out until the spring, will have tempered the joy of that victory at Loftus Versfeld, though, and his colleagues could be impacted by fatigue after the long trek back from Pretoria.

Saracens have beaten Sale by 19 points and Exeter by 15 at the StoneX Stadium this season and, with Saints still to win on the road in the league, backing a comfortable home victory appeals.
