Scotland vs Australia predictions

After a difficult summer under new coach Joe Schmidt Australia have picked up back-to-back wins in their autumn tour against England and Wales, but they may struggle to keep up those standards against Scotland.

The Wallabies were 16-15 winners when the teams last met at Murrayfield two years ago, ending a run of three successive Scotland wins, but the most noticeable trend of recent meetings between the two has been how tight the margins are.

Remarkably, Australia's last three wins have been by a single point, while eight of these sides' last nine meetings have been decided by five or fewer.

Both teams have strong attacking games, although windy conditions are likely to hamper ambitious play and we could be set for another tight encounter.

Scotland rang the changes for last week's big win over Portugal but have brought back their frontline players for this match and they can edge another home success.

England vs Japan predictions

Crisis, panic and despair are just some of the words that have been used to describe England's current predicament and the outcry will only get louder if Steve Borthwick's men fail to deliver a convincing win against Japan in their final autumn Test.

Their run of five defeats is mitigated in part by the fact that three of the losses were to New Zealand and another to world champions South Africa, and all five have been by a single-figure margin.

But England were in a position to win all five games and head coach Borthwick is taking no chances by going with a full-strength team when in the past Sunday's match might have been a chance to blood new talent.

England's only win in their last seven games was a 52-17 defeat of Japan in Australia prior to their tour of New Zealand and a 34-point handicap gives a good idea of the scale of the task facing the Brave Blossoms.

But the conditions might be a stronger hazard for England than the opposition as forecast rain and strong winds look likely to hamper attacking play.

Japan have played four Tests this year against tier-one nations and failed to reach the 20-point mark in any of them, so the majority of points look likely to come from the hosts and backing a total of no more than 62 looks the best play.
