Harlequins vs Saracens predictions

A summer overhaul that saw Saracens wave goodbye to some of their greatest-ever players could have foreshadowed a difficult season, but the early signs are that it will be anything but.

Sarries were the only side to win their first three Premiership matches and director of rugby Mark McCall has highlighted the positive atmosphere around the camp despite the departures of Owen Farrell and Billy and Mako Vunipola.

They began the campaign with a 35-26 win at Gloucester before beating Sale 45-26 and Exeter 29-14 at home, and now make the short trip to Harlequins for the final fixture in the Premiership's derby weekend.

Quins have won one and lost two, but there are caveats, with their defeats coming by one point at Sale and four at champions Northampton.

They also beat Newcastle 28-14 on their first outing at the Twickenham Stoop. However, there is a stat that looms over this fixture and it is that Sarries have won the last eight meetings.

The changing of the guard in Barnet may boost Quins' belief, as will being able to move Marcus Smith back to fly-half despite his star turn in the 15 shirt against Northampton.

Smith's duel with Farrell's replacement, Fergus Burke, could define the game. Burke has excelled but he has benefited from playing on the front foot thanks to his excellent forwards, who are boosted by Maro Itoje's return.

The skipper adds to a pack who have previously had the edge over their Quins counterparts and can help to make it nine successive wins against their London rivals.

There is also United Rugby Championship action, with Dragons hosting Lions at 2.30pm.

The South Africans have won both of their URC outings this season but those victories have been at home and in different conditions to those they will likely encounter at Rodney Parade.

Lions have a real chance to claim a third win of the season but at short odds, it is worth looking elsewhere for value and wing Rabz Maxwane, who has scored four tries already in the URC, could go over again.
