Glasgow Warriors vs Racing 92

Glasgow Warriors are handily placed in their European Champions Cup pool after taking seven points from their first two fixtures last month.

A top-two finish will secure a home knockout tie and Glasgow have been handed a big chance to enhance their prospects on Friday against an out-of-sorts Racing 92 side.

The moneybags Paris club have reached the Champions Cup final three times in the last decade but went out in the round of 16 last season and were well beaten at Sale last time out in pool four.

Big summer signing Owen Farrell, branded a flop in the French press this week, is yet to return from injury, head coach Stuart Lancaster has come under fire, and this week the club parted ways with France international Camille Chat, a club veteran of 12 years, after he reportedly turned up to training drunk.

Lancaster has made wholesale changes to the team who lost at Toulon last time out in the Top 14. France internationals Nolann Le Garrec and Cameron Woki plus Fijian centre Josua Tuisova are among those the former England head coach has left out for the trip to Scotland.

Racing are ninth in the Top 14 with just five wins from 15 games, so forcing their way into the playoff places must take a far greater priority at this stage of the season.

The handicap has been pitched in the high teens, and while that could be within Glasgow's reach it may be worth backing a slightly less convincing winning margin.

Sub-zero temperatures at Scotstoun are unlikely to make for a free-flowing game and Racing's defence has been reasonably strong despite their struggles – their 22-point defeat to Sale in round two was their heaviest of the season.

These teams have met before in the European Challenge Cup and Glasgow won their two home encounters by margins of 16 and 17 points, and a similar scoreline looks worth backing on Friday.
