Bath vs Northampton predictions

Northampton beat Bath 25-21 to lift the Premiership trophy at Twickenham in June, but the West Country side can gain a measure of revenge in Friday night's opening clash of the new season.

The hosts have a settled squad and are able to name 11 of their starting line-up at Twickenham in their team. In contrast the Saints have lost some key forwards over the summer and are also without England scrum-half Alex Mitchell, who picked up an injury in pre-season.

After finishing rock bottom in 2021-22 Bath turned things around last season, particularly at home where they won nine of 11 matches – their only defeats came by three points to Saracens and one point to Leicester.

Those home successes included a 43-12 hammering of a second-string Northampton side in the final round of the regular season, and while they're unlikely to hit those heights, a win by more than five points looks well within their compass.

Newcastle, who finished bottom of the pile with zero wins, get an 11-point start against Bristol in Friday's other Premiership encounter (Discovery + & TNT red button, 7.45pm).
