Argentina vs South Africa predictions

South Africa have the Rugby Championship title within reach and need just three points from Saturday's showdown with Argentina to claim the trophy.

Making ten changes to the team that beat New Zealand last time out might not seem like the obvious way to go about reaching that target, but Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has always played it that way and has the extraordinary squad depth to allow him to do it.

A clash between these powerful sides usually comes down to the set-piece battle and while Los Pumas have the weapons to stand up to a Bok onslaught, it's doubtful they can hold out for 80 minutes.

Argentina claimed a record 67-27 win against Australia in round four and beat the All Blacks in New Zealand but this is a different kind of test and it's hard to see them pulling off another shock.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 37C in the day before a 6pm kick-off local time and the hot conditions could well dictate the way the big South African pack play. They are likely to want to keep it slow and tight, plotting their way from one set-piece to another and using their strength to force penalties and build a score.

Backing the Boks to open the scoring with a penalty looks a worthwhile bet at a decent price.
