Betfred Super League Grand Final predictions

Hull KR are the latest side trying to put a new name on the list of Betfred Super League winners but, as is often the case, the underdogs look set to leave Old Trafford disappointed on Saturday.

Only four teams have had their moniker etched on the Super League trophy and Wigan Warriors are bidding to go back-to-back and win the Grand Final for a seventh time.

The Warriors have already won the World Club Challenge, Betfred Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield in 2024 and the reigning Super League champions are looking to complete a historic quadruple this weekend.

Standing in their way are a KR side who finished second to the Warriors in the regular season and are appearing at the big dance for the first time.

There is no doubt that the Robins deserve to be in the Manchester spotlight but there is also a chance they may freeze on the big stage as this fixture will be new to many of the men in red and white.

Wigan, though, have been there, seen it and got the T-shirt and they are justifiably favourites to land the prize for the second-year running, while recent meetings have gone their way, too.

The Warriors have won four of their last five dust-ups with Hull KR and it was 24-20 to Matt Peet's men when the pair last faced off a little over a month ago.

Another narrow win for the Cherry & Whites looks the most likely outcome but the Robins won't go down without a fight as long as they can quickly get to grips with the occasion.

Armed with the newly crowned Man of Steel Mikey Lewis and inspirational skipper Elliot Minchella, Rovers have had a season to remember and their gripping 10-8 semi-final success over Warrington Wolves will stand them in good stead for this week's decider.

That was a tight encounter at Craven Park last Friday and the Grand Final is unlikely to be any different.

Wigan have won on each of their last three Grand Final appearances, but they were all tight tussles and the winning margins were just eight, eight and six points, so it would be no surprise to see this contest finish in a similar fashion.

The last ten end-of-season showdowns featured points totals of just 12, 36, 22, 12, 29, 16, 30, 18, 42 and 20 so backing a Wigan win by no more than 12 points looks a solid betting proposition and it may also pay to go low of a points line of 32.5.

Damp conditions are forecast for most of the match in Manchester so that could make things tricky for two sides who like to attack with the ball in hand.

Last season's Grand Final between Wigan and Catalans finished 10-2 and was all-square at 2-2 after 40 minutes of action, with only two penalty kicks to show for the efforts of both sides in a tense first half.

Points may be at a premium on Saturday night so backing one of the sides to open the scoring with a successful penalty kick looks a decent option as the opening period is often tight and nerves could also play a part.

Referee Chris Kendall will also want to stamp his authority on the match so a flurry of early penalties looks likely at Old Trafford so backing a successful early two-pointer to break the deadlock could yield a profit in a match which may feature a familiar conclusion.
