Betfred Super League predictions

In a little over three weeks this season's Betfred Super League champions will be crowned at Old Trafford and playoff preparations will have a significant bearing on the final round of regular-season fixtures.

Wigan have been assured of their top-six berth for some time now and they will win the League Leaders' Shield for finishing top of the standings for the second year running if they avoid defeat at home to Salford, who are also guaranteed of a place in the post-season.

The Warriors' task has been made considerably easier, however, by Salford's decision to name a vastly changed squad for their trip across Greater Manchester, with Red Devils coach Paul Rowley opting to rest most of his stars with next week's playoff assignment in mind.

Wigan, meanwhile, are at near full strength as they have a bye into the semi-finals, and the fact that they are 1-100 for victory and asked to give Salford a 46-point start on the handicap hints at the size of the potential mismatch that could unfold on Thursday.

The match may be worth swerving from a betting perspective because Castleford look lively outsiders on their trip to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.

Neither side has much to play for – they have been out of the playoff reckoning for most of the season – but Huddersfield were so poor in last week's 66-0 drubbing at the hands of Warrington that they look extremely vulnerable.

Cas were also humbled last week, losing 40-4 to St Helens, but the Tigers had won away to Saints previously and have at least improved as the season has gone on.

Huddersfield won 20-12 when the pair met in August but a chance is taken on Cas reversing that form and ending the season on a high.
