Warrington Wolves vs St Helens Betfred Super League predictions

St Helens scraped into the Betfred Super League playoffs by the skin of their teeth and the ten-time Grand Final winners face a huge fight to prolong their season on Saturday.

The Saints are more accustomed to having the easier route through to the title decider courtesy of a top-two regular-season finish, but Saturday's trip to Warrington, who finished third, looks a daunting prospect.

Overcome that and an equally challenging trip to Wigan will await Saints next week, but they must first negotiate a winner-takes-all eliminator against the Wolves and the prices suggest the visitors are in for a tough 80 minutes.

Warrington are favourites to continue their quest for Super League glory and they will be full of confidence having already beaten the former champions on the three occasions they have met this year.

The most recent of those was a 16-2 triumph on home soil earlier this month, but previous meetings were more one-sided.

The Wolves hammered St Helens on their own patch 31-8 in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals in April and they followed up with a 24-10 Super League success in Saints' backyard in July.

An aggregate score of 71-20 in Warrington's favour suggests Saints have it all to do this weekend, but their season could be coming to a more premature end than they are used to.

The Wire have won six of their last seven matches, posting 120 points without reply in their last two, and they can be backed with confidence to move within one win of the Grand Final.
