Saturday's Betfred Super League predictions

St Helens have appeared in every Betfred Super League playoff series since 1998 but the ten-time champions are in grave danger of missing out on this season’s end-of-season extravaganza.

A run of three wins from their last ten matches has seen the Red Vee fall off the pace being set by Hull KR and Wigan Warriors at the top of the pile, and the Saints could end this set of matches clinging on to sixth spot with just two rounds remaining.

A hefty points difference could work in their favour at the time of reckoning but they cannot afford anymore slip-ups and Saturday's trip to third-placed Warrington looks a daunting prospect.

Wire have a terrible record against the Saints in the Super League era but they have won both meetings with them this season – 24-10 in the league and 31-8 in the Challenge Cup – and they are warm 1-3 favourites to complete a hat-trick of victories over Paul Wellens’ men.

St Helens edged to victory over Huddersfield last week while the Wolves were beaten in controversial fashion by Leigh, but prior to that Warrington won eight of nine matches, including impressive wins over Wigan and Saints.

A playoff spot is already assured for Sam Burgess’s side, so with the pressure off slightly they can go full throttle at the Saints and an eight-point handicap should be within reach.

Salford and Catalans are also looking to strengthen their playoff claims and a tight encounter looks likely later on on Saturday.

The pair started round 25 in fifth and seventh and this clash could swing either way.

The Dragons have a good recent record against the Red Devils, winning six of the last nine clashes, and it was 20-0 to the French side when these two last met in round 17.

However, Catalans are hard to trust having lost their last three outings, so Salford to edge home by no more than two converted tries looks a solid option in this intriguing tussle.
