Melbourne Storm vs Penrith Panthers predictions

Melbourne were the last side to beat Penrith in an NRL Grand Final and the Storm could bring an end to the Panthers' three-season reign as champions on Sunday morning.

It's the final many have been waiting for since Melbourne were crowned premiers four years ago.

The Storm and Panthers have consistently been the two standout teams in the NRL over the past few years and they have once again filled the top two places in the regular-season standings.

Melbourne claimed minor premiership honours, finishing four points clear of Penrith at the top after winning 19 of their 24 matches. That includes an 8-0 home win over the Panthers in March and a 24-22 success at the foot of the Blue Mountains two months ago.

It promises to be just as tight in Sunday's big dance and there is every chance that the two finalists could put on a final for the ages.

Both sides have shown why they are the best two club sides in the world with authoritative playoff performances to get to this stage, but the way in which Melbourne dismantled the Sydney Roosters, who had scored a league-leading 738 points in the regular season, was hard to ignore.

Melbourne half-back Jahrome Hughes and hooker Harry Grant were at the peak of their powers in that 48-18 demolition of the Roosters, who simply had no answer to the Storm with ball in hand.

As the only side to win three NRL Grand Finals in a row Penrith's pedigree is unrivalled, but the Storm are no strangers to the big occasion themselves and captain Grant could lead from the front with a match-winning display in Sydney.
