Friday's Betfred Super League predictions

By the time Friday's Betfred Super League matches kick off Wigan Warriors could have the League Leaders' Shield in the bag for the second season running, leaving the rest to sort out the make-up of the playoffs with the regular season reaching its climax.

The reigning champions faced a depleted Salford Red Devils side on Thursday evening and the likelihood is that Hull KR will be playing for second place when they lock horns with Leeds Rhinos at Craven Park.

And that is the incentive for the Robins, who will book a home tie in the playoffs for finishing as runners-up so they can ill afford to slip up with Warrington Wolves breathing down their necks in third.

The Wire could snatch second if KR lose to Leeds and Warrington should take care of their own business at home to wooden-spoon contenders London Broncos.

Hull KR have been rock-solid on home soil in 2024 and they have won their last four meetings with the Headingley men, including two in this campaign.

KR won 20-12 and 22-12 on those occasions and a similar outcome could unfold on Friday when Rovers are fancied to edge it.

Leeds must win to have any hope of extending their season, but they were thumped 38-0 by Wigan last week and the Rhinos' late charge may have run out of steam.

There is also plenty riding on St Helens' short trip to Leigh as both sides are yet to confirm their place in the end-of-season extravaganza.

Fifth-placed Saints should be safe thanks to a hefty points difference over their nearest rivals. But things are more precarious for Leigh in sixth as a defeat to St Helens could see them pipped to the final playoff spot by Leeds or even possibly Catalans Dragons, who are a point behind the Leopards in eighth and who face bottom side Hull FC on Saturday.

It's one win apiece in this campaign but Leigh hammered St Helens 46-4 in the sides' most recent meeting in July, one of three consecutive victories over the Red Vee, and the Leopards are fancied to win when it matters most on home soil this week.

Four of the teams' last five meetings have been settled by a winning margin of ten points or fewer, so a home win by no more than 12 points looks the best bet.
