Pre-season favourite Bartosz Zmarzlik got his world championship bid off to the perfect start by topping the rostrum with a hard-fought display in Croatia two weeks ago.
Given his sublime talent, Zmarzlik could quite easily dominate the series and rack-up numerous Grand Prix victories. However, in a sport where one poor start or one minor error can prove extremely costly, supporting another rider at an each-way price makes far greater appeal.
Maciej Janowski topped the heat scorechart in the series opener and despite having to settle for second behind his Polish compatriot in the final, it was a highly encouraging start to the campaign.
The short 300-yard temporary circuit around the famous Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw will provide the riders with a unique test, but Janowski should relish the prospect of racing in front of 55,000 passionate Poles and has valuable track experience having filled the runner-up berth in 2017 and 2018.
The eight-time Grand Prix winner warmed up for this event with a stunning 15-point maximum haul for Dackarna in the Swedish league in midweek and anything other than a podium finish on Saturday would be a bitter disappointment for the home hero.
Gating is proving Freddie Lindgren’s downfall this season but he has to be feared giving his eye-catching Warsaw record, while Patryk Dudek has a preference for short tracks and is capable of a bold show at a big price.
