West Ham look too lively for Leicester
The former Liverpool star gives his views
What’s your best bet of the weekend?
West Ham to win at Leicester. The Hammers got off to a shocking start but they look to have found their feet under Manuel Pellegrini. I know they’ve lost their last two, but they looked fine against Spurs last weekend, losing only narrowly. Leicester have also lost two on the bounce but they aren’t firing under Claude Puel.
Which favourites are most vulnerable?
Southampton are hard to like, especially at home, even against the Premier League’s bottom club. Newcastle’s only two points have come on their travels at Cardiff and Crystal Palace and Rafa Benitez will have them well organised at St Mary’s. And Southampton are clearly struggling to break teams down and haven’t scored in their last four.
What’s your fancy for El Clasico on Sunday?
Barcelona. Even without Lionel Messi they were far too strong for Inter. I was speaking to a Spanish journalist who says it’s a matter of when, not if, Julen Lopetegui departs as the players are simply not buying into anything he says or does. They are in dire straits and this could be the end game.
Where will Arsenal finish this season?
Fourth. The top three places are sewn up and I can’t see Manchester United sustaining any sort of a push. Watching United against Juventus was miserable. So it’s a straight head-to-head between Arsenal and Spurs and with the Tottenham squad showing signs of stretch and Arsenal adapting nicely to life under Unai Emery, I’ll take the Gunners.

Could you back Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages?
Absolutely not. They’ve still got to go to Barcelona yet and I can’t see them winning there. Before that they have to beat PSV and Inter because I can’t see Inter messing up at home to PSV. Very few teams qualify from the position Spurs find themselves in with one point after three games and I can’t see Mauricio Pochettino’s men pulling off the improbable.
What’s the best bet in Tottenham v Manchester City on Monday?
Manchester City faced Tottenham at Wembley last season after three straight defeats – they’d lost the Manchester derby and over two legs to Liverpool in the Champions League. Critics were wondering if City had lost their way – but not a bit of it. They went to Wembley, took Spurs apart winning 3-1, and I fully expect them to do something similar on Monday.
